Hey guys! All of you who yearned to see the eloquent and elegant matriarch from our favorite TV show, The Cosby Show, back in her slim and sexy look, there is surely reason to celebrate. Phylicia Rashad, who had lately gained numerous pounds, has been trying to shed some weight for quite some time now. Finally, it seems that she is becoming successful in regaining her groovy figure.

The 61-year old actress, whom many of us still recognize as Clair Huxtable from The Cosby Show TV show, has lost as many as 35 pounds (15.8 kilograms) in just eight months. Phylicia joined Jenny Craig, the U.S. diet and weightloss firm last year as its spokesperson. After having lost nearly 16 kgs, the actress has surely proven that she is a big winner on the scales.

It is the hard work and determination of Phylicia that is actually paying off. We come across numerous people who want to loose weight but are not ready to make even the basic sacrifices. I mean, it is quite easy to keep on complaining about having gained weight, but if one is determined to shed those extra pounds one has to be as determined as the playful, silly, yet very assertive mom from The Cosby Show.

Here is what Phylicia had to say about her new look,” I’m pleased to report that my weight loss with Jenny Craig is 10 pounds in 4 weeks. I have more energy, my clothes feel looser, and I feel great.” She added further that, “My consultant, Laura, asked me how I’m rewarding myself –how I’m celebrating my weight loss milestone. Truth be told, I don’t have numbers in my head, as I’m not motivated by the scale. I celebrate by continuing the journey. The journey is my reward. Feeling my BEST is the reward I have my eye on.”

Phylicia will be seen in her new slimmed-down avatar, in a new campaign for Jenny Craig that is supposed to be unveiled towards the end of August.

Raven on The Cosby Show

The name, The Cosby Show, often reminds us of Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad who were the central characters of this show revolving around the African American Huxtable family. But this show proved to be a mile stone in the careers of many African American actors who were unknown when they started off with this show but were at the pinnacle of popularity by the time this show rounded up.

Raven Symone is one such actress. She started her career in acting with The Cosby Show at the age of three. She portrayed the character of Olivia Kendall and remained with the show for eight years, till 1992. Working along with great actors like Bill Cosby and Rashad besides Sabrina Le Beauf groomed her into a fine actress. When her own show named That’s so Raven’ where she played a teen clairvoyant, came up for airing, it proved to be such a huge success that it established her as an talented actress for good.

The show centered on an upper-middle class African-American family residing in Brooklyn Heights, New York. Though basically a comedy, the show at times also discussed grave topics like, Theo’s struggle with dyslexia. Actually, Cosby’s child Ennis also suffered from dyslexic and it inspired him to deal with the issue on the show.

The Cosby Show

Even though the show revolved around an African-American family, the racial issues were rarely if ever mentioned on the show. This was really unusual when you compare it with other shows like The Jeffersons. But it does not mean that The Cosby Show remained aloof from all that was happening around because it frequently endorsed African-American and African culture through artists and musicians such as Jacob Lawrence, Miles Davis, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Lena Horne, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie and Miriam Makeba.
