Lisa Bonet was born as one of the three daughters of Arlene and Allen. Her mother was Jewish and worked as a teacher while her father was an African American and worked as an opera singer. Lisa’s parents divorced when she was still quite young. Despite being born in San Francisco, Lisa has spent most of her life in New York and Los Angeles.

Lisa studied at the Reseda High School in California and later went on to attend the Celluloid Actor’s Studio, located in North Hollywood, from where she graduated with a major in acting. One of her younger sister studied at an influential private school in Marin County, which is located north of San Francisco. Her other sister pursued her studies at Oberlin College Due to unknown reasons, Lisa has not been interacting very frequently with her family for the past many years.

Lisa is a vegetarian. In 1992 she legally changed her name to Lilakoi Moon, but continues to use the name Lisa Bonet in her professional life. She got rid of her image of the girl next door, when she was seen in suggestive poses on the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine in its May 1988 issue. Contrary to the widely spread internet rumor, Lisa has not borne any child with her former boyfriend Bryan Kest.

Lisa has married twice and has given birth to three children. Her first marriage was to singer Lenny Kravitz, with whom she ran away in Los Angeles, on her 20th birthday. On 1st December 1988, the couple celebrated the birth of their daughter Zoë Isabella. Lisa and Lenny were separated for some time before they finally divorced in 1993.

The details of Lisa’s second marriage to actor Jason Momoa are not known. On 23rd July 2007, the couple welcomed their first child together, a baby girl whom they named Lola Iolani Momoa. On 15th December 2008, Lisa gave birth to her third child and her second one with Jason. The baby boy has been named Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa.

Lisa started her acting career when she was only 11 years old. Before she became a well known actress, Lisa had participated in numerous auditions, beauty pageants, TV commercials and had also worked as a child guest actor in some TV shows. She was only 16, when she was selected to play the part of Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show, which turned out to be a runaway hit.

Since then, Lisa has moved on to portray various characters on several other TV shows. Her most prominent appearances have been for shows like Tales from the Darkside, A Different World, Lathe of Heaven and Life on Mars, etc.

Besides giving heart winning performances on the small screen, Lisa has also impressed millions of movie fanatics with her histrionics in the movies Angel Heart, Bank Robber, Dead Connection, Enemy of the State, High Fidelity, Biker Boyz and Whitepaddy. In addition, Lisa has also directed Gentleman Who Fell and Waking Compton, besides performing in the soundtrack of The Cosby Show.

For her work in the entertainment industry, Lisa has been bestowed with two prestigious awards and in addition, has also been nominated for seven other awards. In 1989, she along with her co-stars from The Cosby Show won the Young Artist Award under the category of Best Young Actor/Actress Ensemble in a Television Comedy, Drama Series or Special. Before this she had won the same award in 1988 under the category of Best Young Female Superstar in Motion Pictures for her performance in Angel Heart.

Lisa has been nominated once each for Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA’s Saturn Award in 1988, Black Reel Awards in 2001, Emmy Awards in 1986, and TV Land Awards in 2006. She has also been nominated for three Young Artist Awards in 1985, 1986 and 1988.

In The Cosby Show, Lisa plays the role of Denise Huxtable Kendall. She is the second daughter of Cliff and Clair Huxtable. At the start of the series she is shown to be sixteen years old. Although she loves fashion and music, she does not intend to study them as course subjects in college. After spending two years in college, she goes to South Africa where, soon after meeting with Navy Lt. Martin Kendall, she gets married to him despite the fact that he already has a daughter named Olivia from a former relationship.
